Basic Principles

The purpose of the school newsletters is to keep parents informed about what is going on in their children’s school. It is published in digital form. The use of texts and pictures is suitable for online reading.

 

The country CEO decides whether the use of the newsletter template is mandatory.

Main Audience

The main targeted audience, in the respective school location, includes:

  • parents of enrolled students

Intended Impression

“I am up-to-date about the most important developments on the school level. I have a good understanding of my child’s everyday activities at this excellent school.”

Periodicity

The newsletter is issued by the individual school locations at least six times a year.

Instructions

Texts

  • Include rather fewer and shorter, but grammatically and orthographically correct articles in the newsletter.
  • Student texts may have a bumpy style according to the student’s level. Nevertheless, spelling must be correct.
  • Make sure that texts written by adults are proofread and grammatically and orthographically correct.
  • During the school year, each class – in bigger schools: each school level – should be contributing or be reported on several times. Nevertheless, it is not necessary that each class or year level is represented in each newsletter.

Use of Languages

  • English and the local language are to be used equally.
  • Translation of articles is basically not necessary. Exceptions are listed under “Editorial” and “Important Information”.

Photographs

  • Include only a few, but well chosen photographs.
  • It is not allowed to link to Dropbox or similar platforms.
  • Children on photographs must not be identifiable by stating their full names.

Content

Editorial

  • The editorial must be written in English and the local language.
  • The text is limited to 1.000 characters (incl. blanks) in each language.

Important Information

  • Content (must be available in English and in German):
    • new price list
    • information on notice period for contract cancellation
    • opening hours school office during holidays
    • holiday calendar for upcoming academic year is online (link to website)
  • Possible content (best written in English in order that all readers understand):
    • new parking situation
    • lice at the school
    • children must bring warm clothes and rain gear in autumn

From the School

  • Articles are written in the native language of the author.
  • Usually, there are no translated articles.
  • Information about the author:
    • principal, teachers: first name, last name, function
    • students: first name, Year
  • Text length:
    • two paragraphs of max. 1.500 characters (incl. blanks) each

New Staff

  • Written in the native language of the respective person.
  • It contains:
    • max. 1.500 characters (incl. blanks)
    • first name, last name, function
    • photograph

Agenda

  • All entries must be written in English in order that all readers understand.
  • Publish only dates or events that take place until either the next edition of the newsletter or within the next two months.
  • No full year overviews. These should be published in the parents section on the website.
